What is Wind Energy?

Wind energy is a rapidly growing form of renewable energy that uses wind to create power. As with windmills, wind turbines convert kinetic energy from the wind into electricity. Wind energy is harvested in large quantities through wind farms, which can employ several hundred wind turbines over a large area either on land, or offshore. Electricity that is generated from wind farms can be used on electric grids which provide electricity for domestic and commercial use. Wind energy is considered clean energy because it does not produce pollution or greenhouse gas. Wind energy may be a good method of supplying electricity to remote locations. Wind turbines can produce electricity 70-85% of the time; however, this figure depends on the speed of the wind powering the turbines.
